Yellowstone Silk Gown

Green silk cheongsam gown

It was a pleasure to design this gown for Xuan Ong, the lead actress of sci-fi comedy “We Can Save The World”. For the movie premiere, the look had to be futuristic, vibrant, fun and elegant. I chose A.Oei’s Yellowstone Silk Print with a sleeveless qipao silhouette, combined with blue silk organza panelling.

Glide Silk Gown

In contrast to the bold colors of the Yellowstone Silk Gown, I took a more subtle approach to this shift gown for Singapore actress, Tan Kheng Hua. The ease and simplicity of the style and the fresh colors of the print, reflected Kheng Hua’s free-spirited personality, and was more fitting for this gala event.

Design process behind the Glide Print:

On the fourth day of the year, a Cooper’s Hawk landed on my balcony. (To be precise, it crashed into the window and landed on the balcony, and remained stunned for a couple hours in the winter cold. Apparently, this is a common occurrence in Washington, D.C.) To commemorate this rare event, the hawk a symbol of regeneration and courage, I made a pen sketch of the bird. Next, I digitized the sketch — adding colors, adjusting proportions, and incorporating plants as the backdrop — ensuring vibrancy and a bit of mysticism.

This print is available in two color ways:

1) Glide: colored in fluorescent green and electric, this Springtime version is bright and refreshing.

2) Yellowstone: inspired by the hot springs of the Yellowstone National Park, this version is rich in deep teal green and magma orange.
